Youth Pride Association Launches National LGBTQ Support Group
(April 15th, 2022) – The Youth Pride Association (YPA) launches the first virtual support group today, as part of YPA’s virtual support group program. This program offers Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) students in 30 states free access to virtual support groups. This is likely the first support group program to provide services to LGBTQ students on a truly national level.
The support groups meet biweekly for one hour with an experienced group facilitator to share their experiences being LGBTQ, discuss common adversities they face, and receive support from fellow LGBTQ students. Program signups are available here.
“There exist significant inequalities for LGBTQ students in access to supportive services. While there are existing support group programs in select cities, none reach LGBTQ students who need the support groups the most. This program works to fix that, by providing services to as many LGBTQ students as possible,” said Cameron Bartosiewicz, President at Youth Pride Association. “Given recently proposed legislation in many states threatening LGBTQ student's access to adequate supportive services, the need for this program has never been greater.
The Virtual Support group is available to any LGBTQ individual, aged 13 years or older, who is currently enrolled in any educational institution. Program services are available to students in the following states: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin.
