The Youth Pride Association Condemns Chino Valley and Murrieta Valley Unified School Districts.

This comes after both school boards adopted policy requiring educators to “out” LGBTQ students.

Murrieta, California (August 10th, 2023) – The Youth Pride Association, a national nonprofit working to support LGBTQ students, condemns the Chino Valley Unified School District and Murrieta Valley Unified School District for adopting identical policies that mandate LGBTQ students be “outed” to parents by educators without the student’s consent.

Enacting this policy puts LGBTQ students at risk for child abuse, bullying, harassment, homelessness, and self-harm.  This illegal action taken by the school board is in direct violation of existing California law as well as Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. California Attorney General Rob Bonta has already launched a civil rights investigation into Chino Valley Unified School District.

“This policy is a matter of life and death for the many LGBTQ students living in these districts. Rather than making the lives of LGBTQ students in these districts even more insufferable, these districts should be considering what they can do to improve the conditions for all students,” said Cameron Bartosiewicz, President at Youth Pride Association. “ By the passage of this policy, these school boards are erasing both the voices and the lives of LGBTQ students.”
